Before I start the proper review for Fed by Plants, let me get a few things out of the way first…
When I say beach… …it’s not really a beach, but we’re going to pretend it is… And it’s labelled a beach on Google maps, who am I to argue with that? After all, there is a sliver of golden sand, and little waves (wavelettes, really) from passing boats. There’s a great view, too.
And Fed by Plants is not on the beach, as such.
And it’s not really fish, either. It’s tofu, or rather, tofish – brilliant!
So basically, this headline is clickbait. (Are you hooked?)
…the chips are real, though. So, only 66% clickbait, right?
Now that’s out of the way, let me tell you all about Fed by Plants.

At a glance...
Fed by plants is a vegan casual restaurant in Gabriel’s Wharf, on the South Bank.
On the menu, you’ll find a vegan version of fish & chips, as well as pizzas (with vegan cheese), various meatless offerings, buckwheat waffles (in both a savoury version and a sweet one), plus chips and fried plantain for the carb lover (I’ll def try those next time…).
Fruit juices are on offer, as well as beer and even wine.
The tofish and chips at Fed by Plants
Yes, I had the tofish and chips; with a name like that, how could I not! It was very yummy. The tofish was crispy on the outside (and let’s face it, the crispy batter shell is the best part of any fish and chips!) and moist and tender on the inside.

Did it taste of fish? Weeeelll…. no. Did it taste of tofu? Maybe a liiiiiiittle bit? But the tofu is obviously marinated and/ or coated in a savoury mixture, and I’m pretty sure there’s seaweed in there, and it works. The chips were golden and crunchy, and very moreish. The dish came with a béarnaise sauce on the side that was obviously freshly made, and delicious. Oh, and there was some very fresh tasting mushy peas, too. All in all, it was the perfect take on that most British of dishes. (Extra salt would have been nice, but I suppose I could have asked.)
The atmosphere at Fed by Plants
You’ll find Fed by plants in a cheerful white tent at the back of Gabriel’s wharf. There are a dozen small tables, which can no doubt be rearranged into bigger ones for larger parties. The chairs are plastic Eames knockoffs and pretty comfortable, too.

Where to go from there
The Leake Street graffiti tunnel is only a few minutes walk away, and is one of the most unique spots in London. And Lower Marsh, at one end of the tunnel, is a wonderful little street with a great food market and some cool shops.
