Fabwick in Hackney Wick: nice food and a side serving of surrealism

If you enjoyed this, please like or share. Thank you!

Fabwick is a pub/ restaurant in Hackney Wick – and also a self-proclaimed Jazz Bar, Art Gallery and live music venue. The décor is truly something else, one of the most amazing interiors I’ve ever seen, and the food was lovely. Here’s all about this unique spot and its quirky ambiance, including what you need to know about getting there…

A vintage library corner at Fabwick

The most surreal restaurant interior you’ll ever see? Welcome to Fabwick

The Fabwick interior is incredible. Step inside and prepare for your jaw to drop. Quirky doesn’t even begin to describe it. Fabwick is a unique blend of vintage and eccentricity, a true visual feast. Every corner of the large space tells a story, and a pretty offbeat one at that.

In one such corner, books, vinyl records and antique radios combine in a madcap library and music lounge. In another, look at that! A pink sofa seemingly made up from dozens of teddy bears! With the dusty pink Edwardian fireplace at its back and the pastel pink Edwardian chairs surrounding a garden table, it’s a post-modernist Barbie living room.

The dining tables are one-of-a-kind: elegant dark wood with plush red velvet chairs here, a repurposed time-worn workbench of rough wood and graceful upholstered benches there. Velvet armchairs, leather Chesterfield sofas, a disco ball… Fabwick is full of textures. And art. Lots of art on the walls.

And is that giant foot a table or a seat? It’s whatever you want it to be, I think… Vintage lamps are scattered all around the place, and their warm glow make the space feel like a cocoon where time stand still. No, really, it does. Especially if you ignore the large TV in the corner, which actually makes the space even more surreal than it is.

If Eclectica was a casual eaterie, Fabwick is what you’d get.

The Fabwick menu: eclecticism and cocktails

Food first! The menu at Fabwick is of not a reflection of a particular cuisine. There’s a fair amount of meat – steaks, burgers, and even a hot dog offering, but also pasta, salads and sourdough bruschettas. They do breakfast muffins (including a vegetarian one), too, and those are served until 4pm.

Drinkwise, well, this is a bar, so you’ll find plenty of alcohol: beers from indie breweries, cocktails, wines, spirits and what not, though they have the usual range of soft drinks.

Now I was there a while ago, so the menu might have changed a bit, but I had the intriguingly named Brie Anglaise: which was basically Baba Ganoush with the addition of melted Brie. A strange combination, but one that worked surprisingly well. The strong garlic kick undoubtedly helped. And I had chips on the side. The chips are of the chunky kind, came dusted with paprika, and were perfectly nice.

Fabwick opened in early May 2024, so they’re pretty new. I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll be around a long time, it’s a brilliant spot in one of London’s most fantastic areas. So whether you’re a Hackney Wick local or just exploring the area, Fabwick is worth a visit!
