What makes the cinnamon buns from Buns From Home so good?

It’s the smells that get you first. Freshly baked cinnamon buns have a scent like no other, a scent that would make you lick the air if you could. But you can’t, so the next best thing is to follow your nose into one of the Buns from Home branches.

On the outside, the buns are flaky, crunchy, crispy. On the inside, they are gooey, chewy, and yeasty. And intensely cinnamon-y, if that’s even a word. The bottom is crispy with caramelised sugar, the top lightly drizzled with just enough icing for a burst of sugar. (Okay…. If you’re looking for cinnamon buns smothered under a thick blanket of sugar icing… they are not actually the best in that category…)

Most branches bake in-house, and this is another reason why the buns are so good. Imagine getting your hands on a fragrant cinnamon bun still warm from the oven! It’s a little piece of cinnamon heaven. If the timing doesn’t work out so well, they’re still amazing.

Cinnamon buns, cardamom buns, and more

But it’s not all cinnamon buns, oh no! Sure, the cinnamon bun is where it starts, but the folks at Buns From Home obviously believe in more than cinnamon. They offer an innovative array of sweet and savoury buns for all tastes (do I sound like a press release? Sorry…).

On the sweet side, you can have a cardamom bun, a chocolate one, or maybe a banana bread one, or how about a dulce de leche one?

On the savoury side, there’s spinach and feta or ham and cheese.

And then there are the “desserts” ones, more a take on vol-au-vents than buns, maybe. It’s a bun pastry shell, filled to the brim with yumminess. I think there’s more filling than pastry, in fact. So far, there are four flavours to choose from: vanilla custard, chocolate custard, berry cheesecake and tiramisu. Needless to say, they are utterly delicious too. Make sure you grab a spoon to eat those, you’ll need it.

Not all branches sell all varieties, though. The Covent Garden one is probably your best bet if you want the widest choice.

(Oh, and they sell tea, coffee and hot chocolate, too.)

Which tube line is best for Buns From Home?

Buns From Home have, at the time of writing, 12 branches in London, mostly in central and west London. If you’re looking to combine carbs and shopping, the Sloane Square branch is 2 minutes away from the Conran Shop and the Covent Garden one is very close to Stanfords.

And, just for fun, I was wondering… Is there a branch of Buns from Home on every tube line? Which tube line has the most Buns from Home branches? (Let’s ignore the fact that some tube stations are on more than one line, OK?)

Turns out that the line with the most branches is the Central line, with branches in Holland Park (Holland Park tube station), Notting Hill (Notting Hill Gate), Soho (Oxford Circus) and The City (Bank).

The lines with the least branches (one only) are the Hammersmith & City line (Baker Street tube station), the Metropolitan line (also Baker Street tube station) and the Overground (West Brompton).

So now you know.

Psssst… If you’re in the mood for more carb goodness, I’ve got fries, and bagels, tacos and burritos, and some giant sandwiches for you… Prefer pastries? How about paying a visit to the Dusty Knuckle?
